JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Despite a downpour in the early morning, North Florida men's tennis was able to knock off No. 75 UNCW, 4-0, in singles play in the Ospreys home opener at the UNF Tennis Courts. UNF then dropped a 4-2 decision to No. 63 Alabama in the evening.

In the opening match, Yannick Zuern grabbed a 6-4, 6-3, victory in the No. 2 singles spot to give UNF its first point. Sophomore Lasse Muscheites then dropped Xander Veys, 6-2, 7-5, for a victory in the No. 4 spot. In the No. 6 singles match, Zach Goldberg won, 6-2, 7-6, to give the Ospreys the 3-0 advantage. Junior Jack Findel-Hawkins completed the shutout for the home team with a 6-4, 7-6 victory in the No. 1 spot.

The match began at 8:30 a.m., but was quickly delayed by heavy rains in the northeast corner of Florida and postponed until the afternoon. North Florida came back in the afternoon to pick up the victory over a ranked team.

In the night cap, the Ospreys had No. 63 Alabama on the ropes. Findel-Hawkins picked up another singles victory against a nationally-ranked player, winning, 6-3, 6-3, against No. 106 Korey Lovett. Alabama grabbed the next win in the No. 2 position, before the hosts took back the lead with a 6-3, 6-4 win from Jonathan Deautriell in No. 5 singles. Alabama tied it back up with a win in the No. 3 slot. It came down to the No. 4 and No. 6 matches, but North Florida did not overcome the Tide.

UNF is back in action on Saturday against Miami at 2:30 p.m. Miami squared off with the Crimson Tide earlier in the day and lost 4-1.
