JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - After picking up a shutout victory against No. 75 UNCW, North Florida men's tennis now ranks No. 71 in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association's top 75 rankings and continues its tough schedule against nationally-ranked teams as it heads north to face off with No. 47 Cornell and No. 15 Columbia on Thursday and Saturday, respectively.
The Ospreys open against the Big Red on Thursday at the Reis Tennis Center before traveling to Westchester, N.Y. to face off with Columbia after the winter storm made the indoor courts unplayable.
The Ospreys (1-3) lone victory came against 75th-ranked UNC Wilmington, followed by a 4-2 loss to No. 63 Alabama that evening. UNF has the fourth-ranked doubles team in the nation in Jack Findel-Hawkins and Yannick Zuern. Findel-Hawkins is 3-0 in dual matches and notched back-to-back conference player of the week awards. UNF faced off with Cornell in 1995 with the Ospreys grabbing a 4-3 victory in Jacksonville.
Cornell (1-0) kicked off its dual season on Friday, Jan. 22 with a 4-3 win over visiting Buffalo. Colin Sinclair, Stefan Vinti and Karim Arem each won singles and doubles matches, with Arem's win in three sets at No. 6 singles clinching the match for the Big Red.
No. 15 Columbia is 2-0 on the season grabbing a 4-0 victory against No. 22 Minnesota and a 4-2 win over No. 18 Stanford at the ITA Kickoff on Sunday and Monday. Columbia has won the Ivy League Championship in back-to-back seasons, but also advanced to the NCAA Sweet 16. The duo of Mike Vermeer and Michal Rolski are ranked No. 26 for the Lions.
After this road trip, the Ospreys have a week off to prepare for its next home match on Tuesday, Feb. 9 against Louisiana Lafayette.
