JACKSONVILLE, Fla.—The University of North Florida men's tennis team returns home to host Winthrop on Friday, Feb. 28 at 3 p.m., at the UNF Tennis Complex.
Â
"We are going to approach this match like every other match we have had this year," said head coach Mark Finnegan. "We need to focus on the process goals we set out before the match. Last time out at home, we had a great crowd and hopefully we can create another great atmosphere for the spectators to experience."
Â
Last weekend, the Ospreys faced two nationally-ranked opponents on the road. At No. 62 Miami, the Ospreys clinched the doubles points with wins at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles, but fell 4-3. While at No. 64 UCF, UNF captured singles wins at the No.1, No. 3 and No. 5 spots and had a victory at No. 1 doubles before falling 4-3.
Â
Jack Findel-Hawkins' success over the weekend allowed him to pick up his second Atlantic Sun Conference's Men's Tennis Player of the Week. This was the third consecutive week an Osprey has earned the award. Findel-Hawkins defeated Miami's Gabriel Flores 6-4, 6-2 at the No. 1 spot. Also at No. 1 singles, Findel-Hawkins took down Matthew Gladstone of UCF 7-6 (7-3), 6-2. He paired with Norbert Nemcsek to go 2-0 at No. 1 doubles. The duo got a 8-6 win over Miami's Gabriel Flores and Diego Soto. The pair posted an 8-4 victory over UCF's Amar Hromic and Jesse Flores.
Â
As of Feb. 25, the North Florida duos of Findel-Hawkins and Norbert Nemcsek, and Caio Gomes and Yannick Zuern are ranked No. 38 and No. 50, respectively, by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA).
Â
Winthrop comes off a 4-3 victory of then-No. 70 Charlotte on Wednesday. After losing the doubles point, the Eagles battled back to win four of the six singles matches. At the No. 6 singles spot, Michael Chen sits with a 5-0 record and at No. 1 doubles, Dylan Comerford and Peter Nagovnak have a 6-1 record. Â Â
