ELON, N.C. – The University of North Florida men's tennis team was edged by No. 67 Elon, 4-3 on Sunday afternoon at Jimmy Powell Tennis Center in Elon, N.C.

UNF (2-2) got behind early, giving up the doubles point to start the match. The Ospreys picked up a win at the No. 2 however with sophomore Daniel Sotomarino and senior Hleb Maslau picking up an 8-3 win over Cody S-MacDowell and Eric Turner.

In singles play the Ospreys looked to make a run as Moritz Buerchner secured a win in straight sets at No. 1. Buerchner defeated Philip Nemec, 6-2, 6-3.

Sotomarino secured a point for the Ospreys at the No. 2 in a tough three set match. He fell behind in the first set to Turner, 2-6, but rallied back to claim the second 6-2. In the third set the two battled with Sotomarino coming out on top, 7-6 (7-4).

Maslau grabbed a win at the No. 3 with straight sets over Chase Helpinstine with scores of 6-3, 6-3.

Elon secured the match with wins at the No. 4, 5 and 6 singles. UNF freshman Beuregard Treyz fell at No. 4, 6-1, 6-0 to Elon's Cameron Silverman. Sophomore Leonardo Nahar dropped a match to Alberto Rojas, 6-4, 6-2 while freshman Anton Rabinov fell to S-MacDowell at No. 6, 7-5, 6-0.

The Ospreys will continue their road swing on Monday, Feb. 7 at UNC Wilmington in a 1 p.m. match.
