BOCA RATON, Fla. – The University of North Florida men's tennis team secured a 5-2 win over Florida Atlantic on Saturday afternoon in non-conference action at Patch Reef Park in Boca Raton, Fla.

UNF (3-2) got off to a strong start, picking up the doubles point early to take a 1-0 lead in the match. The Ospreys had a win at the No. 2 as senior Hleb Maslau and sophomore Daniel Sotomarino teamed up to defeat Derek Madon and Oliver Webb, 8-3.

North Florida secured the doubles point with a win at No. 3 where freshman Beuregard Treyz and sophomore Leonardo Nahar defeated the FAU (2-3) tandem of Daniel Vardag and Marc Wakim, 8-6.

In singles action, the Ospreys picked up the points needed to secure the match with wins at the No. 2, 3, 4 and 6 singles.

Maslau downed Vardag, 6-3, 6-1 at No. 3 to put the Ospreys up 2-0. Sotomarino defeated Ervin Garibovic in straight sets with scores of 6-4, 6-4 at the No. 2, giving UNF a 3-0 advantage. Nahar picked up a point at No. 4 with a win in straight sets over Madon, 7-5, 6-0 to give UNF a 4-0 advantage and secure the win for the Ospreys.

At the No. 6 freshman Pedro Davisson defeated Marc Wakim in a three set battle. Davisson fell behind in the first set 7-6, but rallied back to take the next two sets, 6-3, 6-1.

Sophomore Moritz Buerchner battled in the No. 1, taking regionally ranked (No. 16) Marc Abdelnour to three sets. Abdelnour claimed the first set, 6-4, but Buerchner came back strong in the second, shutting out Abdelnour, 6-0. In the final set, Abdelnour secured the win, 6-4.

In the No. 5 singles, freshman Beuregard Treyz clashed with Oliver Webb, going to three sets. Webb took the first set, 6-3, but Treyz came back in the second for a 6-3 win. The two went back and forth in the final set before Webb claimed the win with a score of 7-5.

UNF will be back in action at home, hosting Georgia Southern on Saturday, Feb. 19 at 2 p.m. at the UNF Tennis Complex.
