Men’s Tennis Travels to the Carolinas for a Pair of Matches

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The University of North Florida men's tennis team takes to the road for a pair of matches. On Saturday, Feb. 13, the Ospreys will face No. 74 Elon in a 1:30 p.m. match in Elon, N.C. before traveling to Rock Hill, S.C. for a Sunday, Feb. 14 match against Winthrop at 11 a.m.
The Ospreys (3-2) split results last weekend, recording a 4-3 win against South Carolina State on Saturday, Feb. 6 before falling to Florida Atlantic, 4-3 on Sunday, Feb. 7.
UNF picked up wins in the No. 1, 3, 4 and 5 singles matches against S.C. State and won the No. 2, 3 and 6 singles matches against FAU.
Freshman Taylor Albrecht notched wins in both matches to improve to 4-1 in singles action on the season. Against S.C. State, he won 6-3, 6-4 in the No. 3 and followed that up with a hard-fought 6-4, 3-6, 6-4 win in the No. 2 against FAU.
UNF also picked up wins against SCSU with freshman Moritz Buerchner's win in the No. 1. Junior Graham Edgar got the decision in the No. 4 match and junior Hleb Maslau won in the No. 5. Against FAU freshman Leonardo Nahar won in the No. 3 and senior Kurt Gattiker notched a win in the No. 6.
Elon (0-4) has faced three nationally ranked teams to open the season. In their last outing the Phoenix battled No. 52 UNC Wilmington before falling 4-3 after the Seahawks won the doubles point. The Phoenix return three All-Southern Conference honorees from last season in Alberto Rojas, Philip Nemec and Chase Helpingstine.
Winthrop (0-2) was picked to finish third in the 2010 Big South Preseason Tennis Poll. The Eagles fell to Old Dominion, 4-3 in their last outing. Winthrop returns two All-Big South selections including the Big South Freshman of the Year, Nadav Ruppin. Diego Toledo earned first team honors.
Following the road swing, the Ospreys will return home to host College of Charleston on Sunday, Feb. 21 at 10 a.m.
