dean.billick@unf.edu Dean Billick joined the UNF Athletics Department in July 2007 as its Chief of Staff, a newly created position that will allow the UNF athletics director to focus exclusively on fundraising. As part of Billick[apos]s responsibilities, he will have authority over all internal operations of the program and oversee all budgetary, personnel, competitive and academic areas, including all day-to-day administrative decisions. The Pennsylvania native is no stranger to athletics administration, having worked more than 40 years in various roles at four universities. He began as the sports information director at Bucknell in 1965 before moving on to the University of Pittsburgh for 27 years as the SID and senior associate athletics director. After that, he served as athletics director at Lamar from 1997-2002 and then finished his career as the deputy athletics director at the University of Cincinnati from 2002-06. At Cincinnati, Billick was the No. 2 person in charge of the Bearcats[apos] 18-sport varsity intercollegiate athletics program under Bob Goin. He retired to Jacksonville in 2006 and was hired as a consultant at UNF a short time later. During his five-year tenure at Lamar, Billick revitalized the men[apos]s basketball program by hiring former Marquette coach Mike Deane, completed three capital improvement projects, steered the school through full NCAA certification and eliminated a $1.4 million operating deficit. Billick previously served as executive director of the U.S. Modern Pentathlon Association for the U.S. Olympic Committee for three and a half years. A 1963 graduate of Penn State, Billick launched his career in athletic administration at Bucknell. A year later he assumed the same position at the University of Pittsburgh, beginning a 27-and-a-half year tenure at the school. He was associate athletics director and the department[apos]s No. 2 administrator for his final 11 years and served two stints as interim athletics director. Billick was stadium coordinator/consultant at the University of Louisville for five months in 1993, helping lay the groundwork for the capital campaign, which raised $14 million for the construction of the school[apos]s new football stadium.
