Ospreys To Play Pair of Matches in Tallahassee, Mercer Postponed To Mar. 2
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - After postponements in its last few matches, North Florida men's tennis accepted an invite this week to compete in the 2025 ITA Kickoff Weekend at Scott Speicher Memorial Tennis Center in Tallahassee, Fla.
Â
The Ospreys will take on the host team, No. 10 Florida State, on Friday, Jan. 24, at 5 p.m. UNF will then turn around to square off with either No. 15 San Diego or No. 16 South Carolina on Saturday, Jan. 25, with a time to be determined.
Â
UNF looks to maintain its momentum after it handled Troy, 4-3, to open the season and secure its initial win under head coach John Collins. The pair of sixth-year player Bruno Vietri and freshman Gianluca Filoramo took their court to earn the doubles advantage before the point was won by freshman Joao Portugal and junior Andreas Scott.Â
Â
Scott, in addition to freshman Youssef Labbene and sophomore Chase Healey, secured their courts in singles action to clinch the win in the season opener. Scott's performance landed him the first ASUN Player of the Week honor of his career.
Â
North Florida was tabbed to finish second in the 2025 ASUN Preseason Poll with 67 points. The Ospreys were one of three teams – Stetson and EKU – to earn a first-place vote.
UNF looks to defend its 2024 Atlantic Sun Conference Regular Season and Tournament titles after the Ospreys closed out the spring regular season on a twelve-match winning streak and an undefeated 10-0 slate against conference opponents, all which culminated in the third ASUN Tournament Championship in program history.
