Bedford Cup Draws
Â
FORT MYERS, Fla. – University of North Florida men's tennis goes up against the Division I men's tennis programs from the state of Florida this weekend as the Ospreys compete in the annual Bedford Cup Friday-Sunday. Florida Gulf Coast is the host for this year's Bedford Cup with matches taking place at the FGCU Tennis Complex.
Â
"The Bedford Cup is always a first-class tournament and we are looking forward to competing against some of the best players in Florida," said head coach Mark Finnegan. "A few of the guys will be looking to keep their momentum going from last weekend. We also have a few of the guys who begin their fall campaigns. I am looking forward to seeing how we compete and how we handle ourselves when we have adversity."
Â
This is the first time that the Bedford Cup will be played at Florida Gulf Coast. Last season, the tournament was held at the UNF Tennis Complex. Other previous hosts include USF, Florida and Florida State.
Â
In singles, four Ospreys are in the Singles A bracket and another two are in the Singles B bracket. Yannick Zuern, Julian Bradley, Zach Goldberg and Lasse Muscheites will compete in Singles A. Jonathan Deautriell and Alberto De Meo are listed in Single B. Deautriell is the top-seeded player in Singles B and has a first-round bye on Friday. Bradley, Deautriell and Zuern all competed at last weekend's Virginia Ranked 1+1 Invitational. Meanwhile, Goldberg, Muscheites and De Meo are all making their fall debuts this weekend.
Â
In doubles, UNF has two pairs in Doubles A and one team in the Doubles B brackets. Goldberg and Muscheites have a tough first draw in Doubles A as they go against No. 1 seeded Jose Gracia and Michael Rinaldi of Florida State. Bradley and Deautriell, who were paired together at the Virginia Ranked 1+1 Invitational, face Stetson's Loic Blanco and Coilin MacNamara. Meanwhile, De Meo and Zuern earned the No. 2 seed in the Doubles B bracket and have a first-round bye.
Â
The Bedford Cup begins on Friday with singles at 9 a.m.
