
No. 62 Men's Tennis Heads North For Weekend Matches

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The University of North Florida men's tennis team will head to the Commonwealth of Virginia for the second consecutive weekend, as they travel north for a pair of road matches at William & Mary and Virginia Commonwealth.
The Ospreys dropped hard-fought matches to No. 1 Virginia and No. 59 Georgia State last weekend, were ranked 62nd in this week's national rankings, up from No. 63 last week.
The William & Mary Tribe, who host UNF at 5 p.m. on Friday evening, enter the weekend having won their first two dual matches of the season. The Tribe opened their season at home, as they took down Radford, 4-1, and Navy, 5-2, in a double-header on January 20.
The Tribe boasts a ranked player in senior Jamie Whiteford, who currently sits at No. 106 in the ITA National Singles Rankings. The doubles pairing of Whiteford and junior Ben Guthrie are also ranked 49th in the country by the ITA.
On Saturday at 1 p.m. the Ospreys will continue their sojourn in the Commonwealth of Virginia as they travel west to take on the Virginia Commonwealth Rams in Richmond, Va. The Rams currently sit at No. 31 in the ITA National Rankings.
VCU opened its season at the Athens, Ga. site of the ITA Kick-Off Weekend, downing Minnesota, 5-2, in the opening match, before falling to No. 6 Georgia, 5-1.
The Rams boast a trio of players ranked by the ITA in senior Max Wennakoski (No. 45), junior Alexis Heugas (No. 67) and senior Jamie Vazquez (No. 113), while Vazquez has paired with junior Alejandro Argente to form the 36th-ranked doubles pair in the nation.
