FORT MYERS, Fla. – No. 56 University of North Florida men's tennis play its first and only night-time match on Thursday when the Ospreys visit Florida Gulf Coast for a 7 p.m., match.
UNF remained ranked in the Campbell/ITA National Team rankings for the second-straight week after posting a 2-0 record last week. The Ospreys are the highest of three Atlantic Sun teams to be in the team rankings. Winners of seven of their last eight, UNF is coming off a 5-2 conference win over cross-town rival Jacksonville. The Ospreys are an even 3-3 on the road this season, but have not traveled outside of Jacksonville in over a month. UNF's last road trip was a swing that included nationally-ranked opponents in USF (Feb. 24) and Miami (Feb. 26).
Individually, Moritz Buerchner rides an eight-match singles winning streak. Playing at the No. 1 spot all season, Buerchner is 13-4 overall and 3-0 against A-Sun foes. In doubles, Norbert Nemcsek and Daniel Sotomarino have won their last three and are 12-4 on the season.
Florida Gulf Coast is coming off a 0-2 road trip to USC Upstate and ETSU last weekend. However, prior to that road trip, the Eagles went 3-1 during a four-match homestand that included a pair of A-Sun wins against Kennesaw State and Mercer. In their last match at home, the Eagles downed Mercer 4-3 on Mar. 15 with Jackson Moore's three-set win at No. 2 single over Peter Tauchner clinching the match for Florida Gulf Coast.
UNF and Florida Gulf Coast competed at a trio of tournaments in the fall and had matches against each other in each of the tournaments. The Ospreys and Eagles split six matches at the State of Florida Championships, each winning three times. Meanwhile, Timo Kranz defeated Collin Brown in the B Draw at the Seminole Invitational, while Nemcsek posted a consolation singles victory against Dean Tsamas at the ITA Southeast Regional Championships.
