JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – No. 75 University of North Florida men's tennis team was edged in non-conference action by Winthrop, 4-3 on Wednesday afternoon at the UNF Tennis Complex in Jacksonville, Fla.
UNF (7-6) secured the doubles point over the Eagles (7-5) by sweeping all three matches. Anton Rabinov teamed up with Beauregard Treyz in the No. 1 to defeat Sergey Belov and Liran Levy, 8-4.
In the No. 2 doubles match, Daniel Sotomarino and Hleb Maslau paired up for an 8-6 win over Nadav Ruppin and Guy Kubi. Leonardo Nahar and Pedro Davisson paired up in the No. 3 to secure an 8-6 decision over Dejon Bivens and Yuta Hirokawa.
The Ospreys secured a point in the No. 2 as Maslau dropped Bivens in straight sets with scores of 6-1, 6-1. Nahar also notched a point for UNF with a 6-3, 6-3 win in the No. 4, defeating Kubi in straight sets.
In the No. 1 singles match, Sotomarino battled Belov to three sets. After falling in the first set, 6-1, Sotomarino came back in the second for a 6-4 win. Belov responded in the final set for a 6-1 decision.
UNF will return to action on Friday, March 18 in an Atlantic Sun Conference match hosting Mercer, beginning at noon. On Saturday, the Ospreys will host Kennesaw State in league play, starting at 2 p.m.
