Men’s Tennis Takes to the Road for Two

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The University of North Florida men's tennis team will take to the road for a pair of non-conference matches, beginning with No. 67 Elon on Sunday, Feb. 6 followed by UNC Wilmington on Monday, Feb. 7. Both matches are slated to begin at 1 p.m.

UNF (2-1) is coming off a pair of wins. On Jan. 22 the Ospreys defeated Georgia State and Florida A&M with scores of 5-2. Sophomore Moritz Buerchner picked up a pair of wins at No. 1 and earned the Atlantic Sun Player of the Week for his performance.

Also picking up points in singles for the Ospreys during the home opener were senior Hleb Maslau, sophomores Daniel Sotomarino and Leonardo Nahar and freshman Beuregard Treyz. Freshmen Anton Rabinov and Pedro Davisson helped secure the doubles point for UNF in both matches.

Elon (2-1) is currently 67th in the most recent ITA rankings and defeated Gardner –Webb, 4-3 the last time out. The Phoenix were the 2010 Southern Conference Runners-Up after falling to UNC Greensboro in the league championship game. Elon returns first team all-conference selection, Philip Nemec as well as second team selection Thomas Darling. The Ospreys defeated the Phoenix, 4-1 last season.

UNCW (1-1) fell to No. 57 N.C. State, 7-0 in its last outing. The Seahawks' Michael Pereira and Kinshuk Sharma are ranked 43rd in the ITA doubles standings. Wilmington's Pereira was a first team All-Colonial Athletic Association selection last season while Sharma earned second team honors. The Seahawks also return third team selection, Illia Ziamtsou.

The Ospreys will remain on the road to face Florida Atlantic on Saturday, Feb. 12 at 2 p.m.
