UNF travels to East Tennessee State and USC Upstate this weekend
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Despite wins against nationally-ranked opponents in singles and doubles action, the University of North Florida ended up on the losing end of a 4-3 decision against Elon at the UNF Tennis Complex Wednesday afternoon.
The Ospreys (9-6, 4-2 Atlantic Sun Conference) watched the doubles point go to Elon (13-4) when the Phoenix notched wins at the Nos. 2 and 3 positions. Senior Federico Levi and freshman Marc Misanovic' capped doubles action with an 8-6 win in the tiebreaker against No. 48 Damon Gooch and Philip Nemec.
Levi finished another win over a ranked foe in his No. 1 singles match, defeating Gooch in straight sets. He took the first set 6-3 and finished the match with a 6-4 second-set score. Junior Kurt Gattiker also grabbed a straight-set win by posting a 7-6(4), 6-2 win at No. 5.
With the score resting at 3-2 in favor of Elon, the visiting team put the match away with a win at the No. 6 position. Misanovic fell in his first match at the No. 6 position in straight sets.
The loss drops the Ospreys' home record to 7-3 at home this season.
UNF will be searching for its third and fourth road wins of the season this weekend when the Ospreys travel to take on East Tennessee State and USC Upstate on Friday and Saturday, respectively.
