As a junior, 2005-06: Competed in every event with four top-three finishes, three of which were first-place finishes ... best time of the year in the 100-backstroke came in the team[apos]s home opener against Campbell when she swam the event in 1:02.16, taking home a first-place finish ... finished third against New Orleans in the 50-freestyle in a time of :25.89 ... won the 100-IM and the 50-backstroke at North Carolina A&T ... swam the 50-freestyle, 100-backstroke and 200-backstroke at the Pacific Coast Swimming Championship.
As a sophomore, 2004-05: Recorded a pair of top four finishes as well as five other top 10 finishes. Member of the 200-medley relay team that set a school record in the National Independent Conference meet. Best showing of the year was a third-place finish in the 100-backstroke at the UNC-Wilmington meet. Also finished fourth in the 50-freestyle at the UNCW meet. Finished sixth in the 50-freestyle in the Gardner-Webb/Campbell meet as well as sixth in the 200-backstroke in the FIU/Georgia Southern meet.
As a Freshman in 2003-04: Won the 400-yard medley relay in 4:33.61 against Gardner Webb/College of Charleston. Placed second in the 50-yard freestyle (26.07) against Florida Southern and in the 100-yard backstroke (1:01.07) against Tampa/FAU. Also placed second in the 200-yard medley relay (1:57.25) against Florida Southern and improved the UNF record for the 200-yard medley relay to 1:47.96 at the NIC meet. Also at the NIC meet, had season-best times in the 50-yard freestyle (24.93), the 100-yard backstroke (58.44) and the 200-yard backstroke (2:15.62). Made the Peach Belt Presidential Honor Roll.
High School: 2003 graduate of Leon High School in Tallahassee, where she swam for Leon Swimming and Diving under coach Lynn Reese, as well as the Area Tallahassee Aquatic Club under Coach Terry Maul. She participated in the Florida High School State Championships all four years and finished in the top ten in the 100-yard backstroke her senior year.
Personal: Born July 16, 1985, to John and Jan Shields. Majoring in psychology. She enjoys traveling, spending time with friends and going to the beach.
