@OspreyWTen Downs Lipscomb to Stay Unbeaten in A-Sun

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - After North Florida women's tennis clinched an exciting doubles point, the Ospreys continued their strong play into singles to grab a 6-1 win against Lipscomb to stay undefeated in Atlantic Sun play on Thursday afternoon.

UNF moved to 8-5 on the year and 3-0 in conference play, while Lipscomb drops to 10-5 and 0-2 in league action. The Ospreys look ahead to hosting Kennesaw State on Saturday at 10 a.m. at the UNF Tennis Courts.

To open the match, the No. 3 duo of Mariella Calderon and Michelle Valdez picked up a 6-3 win. On the No. 2 court, Luise Intert and Rafaela Gomez held a 5-0 lead, but Hannah Gamage and Danielle Kinnene battled back to take the match 7-6 and force the No. 1 court to be the deciding factor. Noemi Hemmerich and Quetzali Vazquez dug deep and battled with Melissa Kromer and Laura Kent, but came out in top in the tiebreaker with a 7-6 (3) win to clinch the point for UNF.

Valdez put another point on the board for the Ospreys, dropping just two sets, with a 6-2, 6-0 victory at the No. 2 spot. Doubles partner, Calderon, followed suit with with the same scores in opposite order. Calderon downed Danielle Kinnen, 6-0, 6-2 at the No. 6 position. North Florida grabbed its fourth straight win when Intert won, 6-1, 6-4 in the No. 4 spot.

The Ospreys continued their winning ways as Vazquez picked up her fifth straight victory with a 6-2, 6-3 win at the No. 5 spot. After dropping the first set to Gamage, Hemmerich battled back with a second-set victory and eventually won the tiebreaker for the 2-6, 6-3, 10-7 win.
