SHUTOUT! Fifth Straight Victory for @OspreyWTen

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - North Florida women's tennis notched its fifth straight victory and third shut out in five games with a 7-0 sweep of Kennesaw State on Saturday afternoon at the UNF Tennis Complex.Â
The Ospreys move to 9-5 on the year and stay unbeaten in Atlantic Sun play with a 4-0 mark. North Florida takes a short break from conference play to host in-state foe Bethune-Cookman on Tuesday at 5 p.m.
"We played very well today at every spot," said head coach Audra Cohen. "I am impressed with our composure deep in the second sets of our singles matches. We were finishers on every court."
No. 2 doubles, Luise Intert and Rafaela Gomez shut out their opponents, 6-0 before Michelle Valdez and Mariella Calderon clinched the doubles point with a 6-3 victory in the No. 3 spot. Valdez and Calderon are now on a five-match winning streak in the No. 3 position.
Noemi Hemmerich opened the wins for UNF in singles play, dropping just one game in each of her two sets. Valdez followed suit in No. 2 singles with a 6-2, 6-1 win against Alexandrar Mercado. Gomez then defeated Cristina Martin, 6-0, 6-4, to clinch the match for the Ospreys and move to 3-3 in the No. 3 spot.
Quetzali Vazquez continued her stretch of wins with a 6-1, 6-2 victory in the No. 5 spot and is now on a six-match winning streak and holds a 5-0 record in that position. Intert topped her opponent, 6-3, 6-2 in the No. 4 spot and is 8-0 in that position. Closing out the match was Calderon in the six-spot to complete the sweep. The senior downed Jessica Cantrell, 6-1, 6-2 to extend her win streak to five.
The Ospreys welcome FGCU to Jacksonville in a rematch of the 2015 A-Sun Championship where the Ospreys won the title. The game is set for 3 p.m. on Thursday, April 7.
