Freshman cards a 4-under 66 during afternoon session

GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- Freshman Andrew Alligood fired a career best 4-under par 66 in Saturday's afternoon session to help the No. 39-ranked North Florida men's golf team into a sixth-place standing after opening day play of the SunTrust Gator Invitational at the Mark Bostick Golf Course.
Alligood, who started his day with an even-par 70, heads into the final round teid for fifth with a 36-hole score of 136 (-4). Senior Taylor Hancock (73-70) and freshman Travis Trace (73-70) both finished the day tied for 32nd at 143 (+3).

"We got carried today by Andrew," said head coach Scott Schroeder. "That is great to see a freshman play so well. We had too many small mistakes, but overall was pleased with how the guys handled adversity. It should be a fun and exciting round tomorrow and I'm looking forward to see how the guys bounce back tomorrow."
Freshman Phillip Knowles posted rounds of 72-73 and sophomore Jordan Batchelor shot 76-74 to finish day one tied for 47th (145) and 66th (150), respectively.
Tournament host and No. 12-ranked Florida leads the team competition with a two round total of 550 followed by USF in second at 551. Jacksonville (552), No. 19 Vanderbilt (558) and No. 3 Florida State (561) rounded out the Top 5 listing.The Gators' Sam Horsfield is at 9-under 131 to lead the individual medalist competition.
Tournament action concludes with a final round of play Sunday. The Ospreys tee off starting at 8:30 a.m. on hole 1 alongside Florida State and Vanderbilt. Live scoring for the event is available on Golfstat.com.
