GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- North Florida freshman Andrew Alligood closed with a final round 1-under 69 Sunday to finish tied for eighth in the SunTrust Gator Invitational at the Mark Bostick Golf Course. UNF finished seventh as a team in the 15-team field.
Alligood, a native of Saint Johns, Fla., carded a 54-hole total of 5-under 205 marking a career best tournament total and finish for the first-year standout.
The Ospreys fired a final round 287 to finish the three-round event with a score of 864. In addition to Alligood, fellow freshman Travis Trace posted a final round even-par 70 to finish tied for 30th at 213.
"In some ways we played better today than yesterday," said head coach Scott Schroeder. "However, we only had three decent scores and in college golf you need four so the team score suffered. It was a really good week for Andrew as he continues to just play better and better. Travis also played a bunch of solid golf. That is nice to see our young guys play well. We now have a quick turnaround for The Hayt, so it is important to refocus and get our minds ready for a different challenge."
Senior Taylor Hancock finished tied for 46th at 219 following a final round 76, while sophomore Jordan Batchelor shot a 72 to finish tied for 59th (222). Freshman Phillip Knowles rounded out the Osprey lineup finishing tied for 62nd (223) after a 78.

In the team competition, No. 33 South Florida captured the title with a score of 818, eight shots in front of runner-up No. 19 Vanderbilt at 826. No. 12 Florida, the event host, was third at 827 with No. 3 Florida State (831) and Jacksonville (836) also in the Top 5 squads. USF's Rigel Fernandes claimed the individual medalist crown with a 13-under 197.
North Florida returns to action hosting their annual home event, The Hayt, at Sawgrass Country Club on Feb. 26-28.
