DeLAND, Fla. - North Florida (6-6-2) wraps up a three-game conference road stretch when they travel to DeLand to take Stetson (7-4-2) on Saturday night. The match between the Ospreys and Hatters is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
Â
Just Win: With a victory on Saturday night against Stetson and a Jacksonville loss or tie the Ospreys will clinch a berth in the 2016 ASUN Tournament. The Ospreys have played in the postseason the past two years under Head Coach Robin Confer.Â
Mighty Mixon: Katy Mixon led the Ospreys to victories over NJIT, 3-1 and USC Upstate, 4-3 (OT) this weekend. Mixon played a role in five of the Ospreys seven goals, netting four goals and an assist. She is only the seventh Osprey to tally five or more points in a game since 2005, after her two-goal, one-assist performance on Sunday against USC Upstate. The junior midfielder is now tied with Alexis Bredeau as the team's top goal scorer with five on the season. Mixon's play this weekend earned her the ASUN Player of the Week Honor, as well as a spot on the TopDrawer Soccer National Team of the Week.
Late-Game Heroics: North Florida midfielder, Sarah Wasser, scored the game-winning goal in Sunday's 4-3, overtime victory over USC Upstate. Wasser's goal came just six minutes into the first overtime, when she placed a shot in the top right corner of the goal from 30 yards out. After scoring just one goal in each of her first two seasons on the team, Wasser has scored three goals in 2016, tying her for third on the team. The Ospreys are now 3-0-1 when playing in extra time this season.
Back on Track: After dropping the first three games of conference play to Jacksonville, Kennesaw State and Lipscomb, the Ospreys have won their last two games to leave them in a three-way tie for fourth place in the ASUN standings. The final two conference games are against the top two teams in the league Stetson (Oct. 15) and FGCU (Oct. 22).
Accolades Everywhere: Mixon is the third Osprey to garner ASUN Player of the Week honors this season, the most by North Florida since 2011. Alexis Bredeau was named ASUN Player of the Week on Sept. 6 after recording three goals and an assist in a thrilling 5-4 victory over Alabama State. Victoria Ekeli earned Defensive Player of the Week award on Sept. 12 after allowing just one goal slip by and recording nine saves in 180 minutes of play. Ekeli also recorded one of her two shutouts of the season that weekend.
All-Time Series: The all-time series between the Ospreys and the Hatters is even at 6-6 since North Florida joined the ASUN in 2005. The previous four games have been split evenly, with each team winning two games apiece. Home field advantage has played a major role in the series, as both teams are 4-2 when playing at home. Last year the Ospreys scored two first half goals just 11 seconds apart and held on for a 2-1 victory.Â
About Stetson: The Hatters come into the weekend undefeated in ASUN play with victories over NJIT, USC Upstate, Lipscomb and Kennesaw State. Stetson is the only team to clinch a playoff berth thus far sits in front of FGCU (3-0-1), which is the only other undefeated team in the conference. Since dropping four of their first seven, the Hatters have won six games in a row. Stetson's disciplined play has kept them from being booked, receiving just two yellow cards in 13 games, which is the lowest in the conference. The Hatters have been led by Sarah Collins, a junior midfielder who leads the team in goals (8), assists (6) and points (22). Collins received ASUN Player of the Week Honors after netting two goals against Wofford in a 4-0 victory on Sept. 18.Â
