JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. – University of North Florida had a home run in each of its games during a Saturday doubleheader spilt with ETSU at Betty Balser Field. The Ospreys powered to a 7-1 win in Game One, but ETSU claimed the second game 6-5.
Abby Tewey had UNF's (24-19, 8-12 Atlantic Sun) first homer of the day. After Katie Mandigo scored on an ETSU miscue in the third inning, the Ospreys had runners on first and second for Tewey's three-run shot that gave UNF the 4-0 lead. It was Tewey's second home run of the season.
ETSU (16-24, 5-12 Atlantic Sun) used a Katie Wolff homer in the bottom of the fourth to get onto the scoreboard. However, UNF responded with a three-run top of the fifth to take a six-run lead. Marissa Thomas brought home Danica Mandarano from second with a single to center field. Thomas later scored as Megan Mihalik hit a bases-loaded RBI-single through the left side. In the next at-bat, Ashia Kerr drew a bases loaded walk that allowed Tewey to advance home for the game's final run.
Kaylie Wallace pitched all 7.0 innings in order to get the win. Wallace held ETSU to one run off four hits and struck out two.
Whitney Leon was credited with the loss after allowing seven runs – two of which were earned – off six hits and striking out two in 4.1 innings.
Mariah Reynolds went 2-for-4 in Game One. Tewey and Mandarano each score twice, while Tewey also had three RBI.
Kelsey Chernak went 2-for-3 for ETSU.
In Game Two, UNF got out to an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first. Reynolds drove home Thomas from second with a RBI single to center field.
However, ETSU answered with three runs in the bottom of the first to take a 3-1 lead. Chernak hit a RBI-double to left field that brought home Nicole Fox to tie the game at 1-1. Chernak later scored as Danielle Knoetze had a bases-loaded RBI-single to put the Bucs up by one. ETSU took advantage of an Osprey miscue to plate its final run of the inning.
ETSU added to its lead in the third with a two-run Knoetze home run to right center to make it 5-1.
UNF began to rally and scored two runs in both the fifth and sixth innings to tie the game at 5-5. Reynolds registered UNF's second homer of the day with a two-run blast to left field in the fifth. Holton's single to right field brought in both Lexi Taylor and Mandarano to tie the game.
However, ETSU halted UNF's rally by scoring the game-winner in the bottom of the sixth. With runners on second and third, Jackie Baird sent a two-out single through the left side that brought in Casey Horner.
Cortney Radke was credited with the loss after coming in relief and allowing three runs off six hits in 5.1 innings. She also struck out three.
Wolff came in relief for the final 1.2 innings in order to get the win. She allowed one run off two hits and struck out two.
