Softball Takes Down North Alabama, 1-0, To Continue ASUN Championship Run

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -Â No. 7 seed North Florida Softball took down No. 3 seed North Alabama, 1-0, to continue its ASUN Championship run at UNF Softball Complex on Thursday.

North Florida fell to No. 2 seed Stetson, 4-2, in its first game of the afternoon, but it responded to defeat North Alabama and advance to the next round.

In the first game, Stetson would work a leadoff walk in the first inning, but North Florida would turn a 6-4-3 double play to escape the inning unscathed. Stetson would use a single and a fielding error to command a 2-0 lead in the second inning. North Florida would turn its second double play of the game in the third inning with a 5-4-3 turn.
Sophomore left-handed pitcher Macie Hunolt would inherit a bases-loaded situation in the third inning and would force a pop out to second to limit the damage to one run. Stetson would tack on another run in the fourth inning for a 4-0 lead.
For the second time in the ASUN Championship, junior utility player Addyson Bruneman would launch a home run to put North Florida on the board and narrow the deficit to 4-2 in the fifth inning. Senior right-handed pitcher Kate Peters would toss a pair of scoreless innings with three strikeouts on the mound for North Florida in the fifth and sixth innings before the game reached its eventual final.

In North Florida's second game of the afternoon against North Alabama, the Ospreys would strike first when junior infielder Bella Cimino launched a two-out solo home run, her 15th of the season, to left field to secure an early lead.
The game remained at 1-0 into the bottom of the seventh inning, when graduate student outfielder Hallie Langford delivered a game-saving throw from left field to get the tying run at home plate and preserve the shutout to send North Florida onward.
Junior right-hand pitcher Cameron Ponich delivered a complete-game shutout with four strikeouts and just three hits allowed.
