JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The University of North Florida women's tennis team will take the courts for the first time in more than a week Tuesday afternoon, as it plays host to the College of Charleston for a 2 p.m. match.
The Ospreys last saw action on February 24, when they trounced South Alabama, 6-1, at UNF Tennis Complex. With the victory, UNF improved to 5-3 on the season, including a 4-2 mark at home.
The Cougars, who were ranked 72nd nationally in the most recent edition of the ITA National Team Rankings, will visit UNF as the third stop of a three-match Florida road trip this week.
CofC entered the week with a 4-3 record on the year before grabbing a 4-3 win at Stetson on Saturday. The Cougars face USF on Monday afternoon before traveling north for their match at UNF. CofC is led by senior Christin Newman, a two-time All-Southern Conference First Team member who has accumulated a 5-3 singles record as the only Cougar to play at No. 1 this season.
Senior Lorena Aviles, who has been the only Osprey to play at No. 1, has also started the 2013 season well, racking up a 6-2 record in dual matches. UNF also has a trio of players with lengthy winning streaks in singles, as sophomore Taylor Hollander (five matches), senior Melanie Aguirre (four matches) and junior Simona Weymar (three matches) will look to add another win to their recent runs.
UNF has also fared well in doubles this season, tallying a 14-8 overall record in dual matches so far. Since pairing up for the first time this season last weekend, Weymar and sophomore Rebeca Pereira have won both of their matches at No. 2 to lead the way for the Ospreys.
Admission to Tuesday's match is free of charge. Follow along with the action on Twitter at @OspreyWTEN.
