Men's Tennis Hosts South Alabama in Midweek Match
3/11/2013 7:51:00 PM | Men's Tennis
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The University of North Florida men's tennis team will face its ninth nationally-ranked foe on Tuesday afternoon, as it plays host to No. 58 South Alabama in a 2 p.m. match.
The Ospreys have been red-hot as of late and enter Tuesday's match riding a three-match winning streak, a stretch that began with a 5-2 victory at Miami. UNF then earned home wins over UCF and Cleveland State, both by a 6-1 margin.
The Jaguars are coming off a tough 4-3 road loss at USF on Monday afternoon that dropped their 2013 record to 8-8, including a 1-5 mark in road matches. Prior to that contest, USA had won two straight matches at home. Sophomore Daniel Leitner has led the way for the Jaguars, battling his way to being ranked No. 60 in this week's ITA National Singles Rankings.
UNF enters Tuesday's contest with a 5-6 record, but the Ospreys have staked themselves a robust 3-1 record in the confines of UNF Tennis Complex. The Ospreys have been tough to beat in either singles or doubles recently, as they have won 15 of their last18 singles matches, and have not lost any of the last eight doubles matches that have been played to completion.
USA and UNF faced off in Jacksonville exactly one year prior to Tuesday's match, when the Ospreys knocked off the 42nd-ranked Jaguars, 4-3.
Admission to Tuesday's match is free to the public, or follow along on Twitter at @OspreyMTEN.
