
Women's Basketball Takes on Kennesaw State in Home Finale

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The University of North Florida women's basketball team plays its home finale on Saturday afternoon when the Ospreys host Kennesaw State at UNF Arena at 4:30 p.m. UNF is an all-time 13-6 in regular season home finales, emerging victorious in each of the last four years.
Both teams are headed for the postseason and Saturday's game will play a key role in seeding for the General Shale Atlantic Sun Women's Basketball Championships. Kennesaw State is currently fourth in the standings, while UNF is fifth.
UNF has won its last two games, winning at ETSU last Saturday and then at home on Thursday night against Mercer. Post players Raneisha Lamar and Taylor Smith powered the Ospreys to their second-straight home win on Thursday night. Lamar notched her second-consecutive double-double with a 14-point, 13-rebound showing against Mercer. Smith added 13 points with a 6-for-9 performance from the floor.
Kennesaw State carries a five-game winning streak into Saturday's game. The Owls have had four players in double-digit scoring in three of those five games, including on Thursday night at Jacksonville. Taylor Mills has led the Owls in scoring throughout the season with a 13.0 ppg average. Sametria Gideon also averages in the double-digits in scoring (10.8 ppg) and is the team's top rebounder with 8.2 rpg.
The series with Kennesaw State is the most played in UNF's history with Saturday's game being the 31st meeting. The first game of the series took place on Dec. 7, 1994 with UNF emerging with a 66-54 win. The Ospreys and the Owls have met every year since the 1997-98 season when both teams were part of the Peach Belt. UNF has won the last two meetings, including this season's earlier game at Kennesaw State.
Prior to Saturday's game, UNF will honor its graduating players. The game will also be the first game of a doubleheader with UNF's men's team.
