
Women's Basketball Falls To Jacksonville To Close Out Regular Season

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – North Florida Women's Basketball fell on the road to River City Rumble rival Jacksonville 79-71 in its final game of the regular season at Swisher Gymnasium Friday evening.
Sophomore guard Jamisyn Stinson led the Ospreys offensively with 20 points on 6-17 from the field and 5-12 from three in 37 minutes. For Stinson, it marked her third game of the season with at least 20 points. She has tacked on at least 10 points in 10 of the last 13 contests.
Jacksonville took an early 8-3 lead into the first quarter media timeout. A pair of free throws from junior guard Elle Blatchford and a junior guard/forward Karyzma Pierre layup would put a stop to the 6-0 JU run and make the score 8-7. Jacksonville would sink a jumper just before the buzzer sounded to take a 9-3 advantage into the second quarter.
Back-to-back transition layups from Blatchford and redshirt sophomore Alexa Washington would give the Ospreys a 14-13 lead at 8:55 mark of the second quarter. The Dolphins would answer to regain the lead and take a one possession lead, 18-16 into the second quarter media timeout.
Jacksonville would build upon its lead and take a 30-24 lead into the halftime break. Blatchford led the Ospreys with six first half points, and Pierre helped the Ospreys post a 27-19 first half rebound advantage with six rebounds.Â
A Washington three, a layup from sophomore forward Nichole Carreno and a Blatchford trey helped North Florida post an 8-0 scoring run and regain the lead, 38-35, forcing a Jacksonville timeout at the 5:05 mark of the third quarter.Â
A contested three from Stinson would give the Ospreys a four-point lead, 41-37, at the 4:29 mark of the third quarter. Jacksonville would regain the lead. Stinson would knock down a half-court heave to beat the buzzer and cut the Jacksonville lead to just four, 53-49 headed into the fourth quarter.
Jacksonville would knock down a three to take its first double-digit lead of the game at the 7:14 mark of the fourth quarter.
An and-one from freshman guard Dezuray McGill would cut the Dolphin lead to single digits, 64-56, at the 4:34 mark of the fourth quarter. McGill posted 12 points on 5-11 from the field and seven rebounds in the contest. Her ninth ASUN contest and 13th game with at least 10 points.
Jacksonville would push their lead back out to double figures, before a Washington three would cut the deficit to just eight, 72-64, at the 1:46 mark of the fourth quarter.
Washington would finish with 13 points on 5-10 from the floor, 3-5 from three and four steals in 34 minutes. For Washington, nine of her 10 double-digit scoring outings this season have come against ASUN opponents.
Jacksonville built a 73–64 advantage with 1:18 remaining in the fourth quarter when a fight broke out between the two teams. Following the altercation, players from both sides were ejected.
Jacksonville would maintain its lead for the remainder of the contest.
North Florida will return to Swisher Gymnasium as the 11 seed for the opening round of the 2026 ASUN Women's Basketball Tournament against seven seed West Georgia on Tuesday, March 3, at 5 PM ET on ESPN+.
