Adam Schaechterle Named UNF Men's Tennis Coach

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – University of North Florida Director of Athletics Lee Moon announced the hiring of Adam Schaechterle as the head coach for the UNF men's tennis program.
Schaechterle joins the Ospreys following a stint as an assistant coach for his alma mater, Northwestern University. He also served time in player development with Wilson Sporting Goods.
“Adam brings a great deal of energy and first-hand knowledge to our already successful men's tennis program,” said Moon. “He not only experienced success as student-athlete both on and off the court but also gained valuable skills while working closely with some of the best players on the ATP tour at Wilson. He can relate to student-athletes current challenges as well as help direct and guide them to future goals.”
Schaechterle spent the 2010-11 season on the staff at Northwestern after working at Wilson for three years. He began his career with Wilson in 2007 working to build the Wilson brand at the U.S. Junior and College levels, by recruiting and managing more than 100 of the nation's top junior prospects. After two years, Schaechterle was promoted to Tour and Juniors Manager in America, serving as manager for players with world rankings inside the Top 25. In that role, he signed several of the biggest young tennis stars to Wilson.
Prior to his stint at Wilson, Schaechterle spent a season as the volunteer assistant for the Wildcats.
"I'd like to thank Coach Moon, Nick Morrow, and the entire Osprey family for giving me this incredible opportunity,” said Schaechterle. “I'm excited to join the talented athletic department at UNF, and I look forward to building a tennis program that makes the university and the community proud."
A four-year standout tennis performer at NU, Schaechterle led the Wildcats to a berth in the 2005 NCAA Championships and also qualified individually for the 2006 NCAA Doubles Championship. Serving as a team captain during his senior season, Schaechterle was the unanimous choice of his teammates to receive the 2005 Vandy Christie Award, presented annually to the Wildcat who demonstrates outstanding loyalty and dedication to Northwestern tennis.
A native of Oconomowoc, Wis., Schaechterle won 61 career singles matches and was also NU's male recipient of the 2006 Big Ten Sportsmanship Award. He graduated in 2006 with a dual degree in English and history from Northwestern's Weinberg College of Arts and Sciences.
The UNF men's tennis team captured the 2011 Atlantic Sun Conference regular season title and was the top seed at the conference tournament.
