JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The North Florida women's soccer team (0-3) will conclude its five-match road trip to open the season this weekend as it heads to South Carolina. The Ospreys will play at Presbyterian College Friday, Sept. 3 at 7:00 p.m. before facing off against Clemson University Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
North Florida is coming off two tough losses on the west coast last weekend, falling to San Francisco and Saint Mary's (Calif.) by scores of 2-1 and 4-3 (OT), respectively.
North Florida looks for their first victory of the season when they match up against Presbyterian Friday at Martin Stadium at Edens Field. Though the Ospreys have taken the last two from the Blue Hose, the overall series between the two schools is all square at 3-3. The teams have not met since the Ospreys won a double-overtime decision, 2-1, on Oct. 29, 2005 in Jacksonville, Fla.
On Sunday, North Florida and Clemson will face off for the first time in school history. The match will be played at Historic Riggs Field.
Sophomore forward Michele Larrinaga has gotten off to a fast start this season, ranking second in the Atlantic Sun in goals (2) and third in goals per game (.67). The Tampa, Fla., native netted two goals on two shots in just three minutes and 19 seconds against Saint Mary's on Aug. 29. Larrinaga was named the Atlantic Sun Conference Player of the Week (Aug. 30) for her efforts.
The Ospreys open their 2010 home schedule at Hodges Stadium for the first time Sept. 10 against Francis Marion.
Head coach Linda Hamilton is in her fourth season at UNF and owns a 23-48-7 career mark heading into this weekend's play. The Ospreys, who finished with a 5-11-3 mark in 2009, return 15 letterwinners, including five starters this season.
