JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The North Florida women's soccer team dropped a 1-0 decision to Presbyterian in double overtime Friday night at Martin Stadium at Edens Field. With the loss, the Ospreys fall to 0-4 on the season while the Blue Hose improve to 1-2-1.
"I thought we played well enough to win," North Florida head coach Linda Hamilton said. "We just couldn't get a break when it came to scoring a goal. It is disappointing to play so hard and come up just short in the closing minutes. We just have to keep battling and working hard.”
North Florida freshman forward Carolina Lencina led the Ospreys with three shots, while three other players tallied two shots each. Presbyterian's Tori Lopez connected on the game-winning shot in the 108th minute, just 1:08 from the final whistle.
Lopez, taking her only shot of the game, found the net after the ball was knocked around within the six-yard box. Stephanie Aaron was credited with the assist.
The Ospreys were all over the Blue Hose offensively, but were unable to find the net as North Florida ripped off 19 shots to only six from Presbyterian.
North Florida falls to 3-4 all-time against Presbyterian.
Up next, North Florida will make the 66-mile trip east to face Clemson on Sunday, Sept. 5. The two teams will meet at 1:00 p.m. at Historic Riggs Field.
