UNF Defeats Crosstown Rival JU, Clinches No. 3 Seed

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The University of North Florida men's tennis team defeated crosstown, Atlantic Sun rival Jacksonville, 6-1 on Tuesday afternoon in a SunTrust River City Rumble Battle at UNF Tennis Complex. With the win, the Ospreys clinch the No. 3 seed for the 2010 Atlantic Sun Tennis Championships.

UNF (16-7, 7-3 A-Sun) got off to a strong start, securing the doubles' point with wins in all three matches. Freshman Daniel Sotomarino and junior transfer Hleb Maslau battled to a tie-breaker with Chema Fantova and Hector Garcia before picking up the 8-7(4) win at No. 1.

In the No. 2 doubles, freshman Taylor Albrecht and senior Kurt Gattiker defeated Jaimee Esteban and Logan Shalmi, 8-2. Freshmen Leonardo Nahar and Moritz Buerchner had an 8-3 win over Victor Vaz and Von Oertzen at No. 3.

The Ospreys continued their run into singles, winning five matches over the Dolphins (9-11, 4-6 A-Sun) in straight sets.

Sotomarino defeated Vaz, 6-3, 6-0 at No. 1. Sotomarino has gone 9-1 in singles over the Ospreys' past 10 matches. Today's match was Sotomarino's first at No. 1 this season.

Buerchner secured the 7-6(4), 6-4 win over Garcia at No. 3. At No. 4 Nahar had a 6-1, 6-3 win over Esteban.

Albrecht secured a point for the Ospreys at No. 5 with a 6-0, 6-4 win over Oertzen. Gattiker, in his final home match for the Ospreys, defeated Shalmi 7-5, 6-2 at No. 6.

The Ospreys will wrap up the regular season on the road Saturday, April 10 when they travel to Murfreesboro, Tenn. to face Middle Tennessee State at 1 p.m. They will remain in Murfreesboro to face Memphis on Sunday, April 11 at 10 a.m.
