JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The University of North Florida men's tennis team battled Conference USA foe Central Florida with four singles matches going to three sets before being edged, 4-3 on Friday afternoon in Jacksonville, Fla. at the UNF Tennis Complex.

The deciding match came down to the No. 5 singles. UNF (6-3) freshman Leonardo Nahar and UCF senior Johan Beigart went to three sets and a tiebreaker before Beigart picked up the 2-6, 7-5, 7-6(5) win to secure the match for the Knights.

UNF picked up points in the No.3 as junior Hleb Maslau defeated Claudio Romano, 6-1, 6-4. Freshman Daniel Sotomarino dropped Blaze Schwartz in a three set match in the No. 4, picking up a 7-6, 4-6, 6-4 win. In the No. 6 senior Kurt Gattiker defeated Mario Samson, 6-2, 6-4.

The Ospreys also played close matches in the No. 1 and 2 singles as freshman Moritz Buerchner took Marc Rocafort to three sets before falling 6-4, 1-6, 6-3. In the No. 2 freshman Taylor Albrecht fell to Brock Sakey in three sets with scores of 7-5, 4-6, 7-5.

UCF picked up the doubles point with No. 24 ranked Schwartz and Rocafort teaming up to defeat Gattiker and Albrecht, 8-5 in the No. 1. Beigart paired up with Joe Delinks to defeat the UNF duo of Buerchner and junior Graham Edgar, 8-6 while Sakey and Romano picked up the 8-5 win over Sotomarino and Maslau in the No. 3.

The Ospreys will travel to Statesboro, Ga. on Saturday, Feb. 27 to face Georgia Southern in a 1 p.m. match.
