JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The University of North Florida men's tennis team improved to 5-2 overall with a 5-2 victory over Winthrop in Rock Hill, S.C. The Ospreys won the doubles point and picked up four singles victories to secure the win.

The Ospreys started the day by claiming the doubles point. The duo of Moritz Buerchner and Graham Edgar put together an 8-3 victory at No. 2 doubles to get things rolling for UNF. Kurt Gattiker and Taylor Albretch clinched the point with an 8-6 win in the No. 1 spot. Winthrop claimed the final doubles match with a 9-7 victory at No. 3 doubles against UNF's Leonardo Nahar and Gleb Maslau.

With a 1-0 advantage, North Florida picked up a point in No. 6 singles as Gattiker recorded a 7-5, 6-0 straight set victory. The Eagles cut the Ospreys' lead in half, 2-1, with a victory at No. 1 singles.

UNF responded with a three-set match by Edgar at No. 5 singles. Edgar dropped the first set 6-1, before winning the second set in a tie breaker and finishing off the match with a 6-2 win in the third set.

Winthrop pulled out a victory at No. 2 singles, but the Ospreys secured the victory with a win at No. 4 singles. Maslau took the first set 6-4, but dropped the second set 3-6 to set up the pivotal third set. Maslau won the third set 6-3 to give the Ospreys their fifth victory of the season.

Nahar closed out the day with a three-set victory at No. 3 singles that featured a pair of tie breakers, 6-3, 6-7 (4), 7-6 (0).

North Florida returns to action on Sunday, Feb. 21 as the Ospreys play host to the College of Charleston. The match is slated for 10 a.m. at the UNF Tennis Complex.
