UNF dropped a 5-2 decision to Jacksonville Wednesday
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Tightly contested matches highlighted the University of North Florida men's tennis team's season finale at Jacksonville Wednesday afternoon, which the Ospreys dropped 5-2 to their cross-town Atlantic Sun Conference and SunTrust River City Rumble foe.
Two singles matches took three sets for a decision to be posted with UNF (10-9, 5-5 A-Sun) and JU (12-7, 6-4) filing one apiece. Senior Federico Levi won in three sets at the No. 1 position for his 13th individual win of the season while Marcos Oliveira outlasted junior Kurt Gattiker at the fifth position for a 5-7, 6-3, 10-8 win.
The Dolphins began the match by taking two of three doubles matches, all of which finished with an 8-4 final score. In the No. 2 slot, Gattiker and freshman Marcos Chiaretti grabbed the Ospreys' only doubles win of the match.
UNF and JU also split a pair of matches that were decided by the same score in straight sets. Chiaretti fell to Victor Viaz at No. 3 by a 6-4, 6-4 score. Sophomore Graham Edgar used the same margin for a fourth-position victory against Jaime Esteban.
For JU, the win avenges a 6-1 loss to the Ospreys last season at the UNF Tennis Complex.
