UNF set for season opener at Ga. Southern

Ospreys played in Samford Winter Invitational last weekend
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The University of North Florida men's tennis team will open its spring dual schedule on Sunday when it travels to Statesboro, Ga., to face Southern Conference foe Georgia Southern.
The Ospreys opened 2008 action last weekend at the Samford Winter Invitational in Birmingham, Ala. During the chilly weekend in the Iron City, UNF senior Eduardo Pereira and sophomore Kurt Gattiker enjoyed a productive weekend, with both players tallying 2-1 singles marks in addition to teaming to win the doubles competition in their flight.
The flighted tournament included players from Samford, Jacksonville State and UAB.

Who's Hot: Senior Eduardo Pereira has continued with his solid play from the fall season - when he posted a 7-2 singles mark in three tournaments, including a perfect 2-0 record at the UCF Invitational ... Pereira was 2-1 in singles play and 3-0 in doubles with partner Kurt Gattiker last weekend ... Gattiker was also 2-1 in singles play during the three- day tournament.
UNF Notables: UNF returns just four players from last year's squad, three of which are seniors (Yuiti Lopes, Eduardo Pereira and Andres Monje) ... Monje enjoyed a strong fall season, posting a 5-4 singles record and advancing to the finals of his consolation flights at the Georgia Southern fall tournament and the UNF Fall Invitational ... sophomore Ben Smith competed with the team during the fall but suffered a foot injury and subsequently left the team this semester to focus more on school ... the men's squad added two freshmen for the spring semester in Alejandro Argumendo from El Salvador and Adrian Escarte from Miami. Both played at the Samford tournament this past weekend.
