Pair of Program Records, Relay Wins Highlights Visit Gainesville Indoor Classic
2/6/2026 10:00:00 PM | Men's Track, Women's Track
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - North Florida track and field set a pair of program records to finish out its regular season slate for the indoor season at the Visit Gainesville Indoor Classic on Friday afternoon.
Nataly Walters set the first record of the day with an outstanding mark of 12.27m (40-3.25) to place as the runner-up in the women's triple jump. She reset her own record of 12.08m (39-7.75) that was set two weeks ago at the ACSEC Invitational.
The second record was set by the men's 4x400m relay team, who took down the top program time of last year's team. Rey Hernandez, Rashad Hemissi, Troy Williams, Matthew Groves combined for a time of 3:16.72, as Williams is the only Osprey that was a part of 4x400m record in 2025.
The men's 4x400m relay joined three other Osprey relay teams as first-place finishers to cap off the day at the Visit Gainesville Indoor Classic. The 4x400m teams from both the men's and women's teams, as well as both DMR teams, placed as the top team all four relays.
Navia Casa, Gabby Johnson, Ella Chandler and Katerina Natsiopoulou ran 3:48.20 in the women's 4x400m, while Lilly Schuster, Chandler, Ava Wyant and Ana Markovina clocked 11:49.36 in the women's DMR along with the men's DMR time of 10:10.93 from Shamar Henry, Mason Spearin, Christian Ruocco and Andrew Mahorner.
On top of the relay sweep, the men's 800m was loaded with Osprey runners led by Shamar Henry in first overall with a time of 1:52.42. UNF swept the top six spots of the 800m race with Hemissi, Aiden Arnold, Spearin, Ruocco and Ryan Douihech following behind Henry.
The women's 3000m saw North Florida have three runners in the top three spots of collegiate runners. Annika Buser clocked in a time of 9:52.63 with both Laci Watford and Cohen Kooker joining her under the 9:55 mark.
Jayvin Strouble placed first once again in the men's high jump for a second straight meet clearing the 2.04m (6-8.25) bar. Nicole Shepherd returned for the first time since the indoor season opener with another first-place finish on the season with a 1.67m (5-5.75) jump.
Other highlights included Gabby Johnson and Rey Hernandez earning runner-up finishes in their respective 400m races, followed with Aiden Arnold and Ava Wyant sweeping the mile with top placements and stellar times. Chandler and Natsiopoulou finished second and third in the women's 800m, while Parker Banzhaf was the runner-up as well in the men's 3000m.
Hernandez ran a pair of 6.84 times in the 60m preliminary race and final race for a top-three finish. He was 0.02 seconds away from matching his own program record in both performances.
Along with the two program records and plethora of top-three placements, UNF finished the meet day with 26 lifetime best marks. Five Osprey athletes also competed in a specific indoor event for the first time in their collegiate careers.
North Florida returns for the indoor postseason at the ASUN Indoor Championships from Feb. 27-28 at Norton Healthcare Sports & Learning Center in Louisville, Ky.
