JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -Â North Florida softball cruised to a doubleheader sweep over DePaul to improve to 4-0 at the UNF-JU Classic at UNF Tennis Complex on Saturday afternoon.
Â
Assistant coaches Mario Hernandez and Amber Fiser each earned their 100th win as assistant coaches at UNF. So far, North Florida has outscored its opponents 27-1 during the UNF-JU Classic
Â
Junior pitcher Cameron Ponich continued her dominance in the circle pitching seven scoreless innings with seven strikeouts to help North Florida shutout Depaul in game one 5-0. With the win, Ponich improved to 8-1 this season and lowered her ERA to 0.92.
Â
A two RBI double into center field off the bat of senior infielder Ayden Allen in the third inning helped the Ospreys jump out to a 2-0 lead.
Â
A DePaul error helped North Florida tack on three more runs in the fourth inning to reach the eventual final.
Â
DePaul used a solo homer in the second inning to jump out to an early advantage in game two of the doubleheader.
Â
North Florida immediately responded with a six-run bottom half of the inning. Back-to-back double from sophomore Grace Shaw and junior infielder Hannah Davila tied the game at one. A bases loaded double from sophomore catcher Ayden Allen would break the game open and give the Ospreys a 6-1 lead.Â
Â
An RBI single up the middle from redshirt junior outfielder Kalyn McCarthy would make the score 7-1 in the third inning.Â
Â
After a walk from sophomore outfielder Alyssa Jones, junior infielder Bella Cimino would send the Ospreys home early in the sixth with a walk off run-rule two-run bomb to left center field. Cimino would extend her on-base streak to 23 consecutive games to start the season which is the longest streak by an Osprey since 2015.
Â
Sophomore pitcher Taylor Cook picked up the win for the Ospreys allowing just one run over four innings pitched.Â
