
Softball Dismantles Tennessee Tech 7-1 To Sweep UNF-JU Classic

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -Â North Florida softball defeated Tennessee Tech 7-1 to sweep the UNF-JU Classic at UNF Softball Complex on Sunday afternoon.

With the win, UNF improved to 19-4 overall and 16-2 at home. The Ospreys were dominant over the weekend outscoring its opponent 34-2.

With Tennessee Tech threating in the second inning with a runner in scoring position and no outs, junior pitcher Cameron Ponich recorded back-to-back strikeouts and a groundout to leave the runner stranded and keep the game scoreless.
Â
Ponich would go on to earn the win with six shutout innings, seven strikeouts and only one hit allowed to improve to 9-1 this season.

With the bases loaded in the bottom half of the third inning, junior infielder Bella Cimino delivered with a single up the middle to drive in two runs and give North Florida a 2-0 lead.

Cimino extended her on-base streak to 24-consecutive games to start the season.

Junior infielder Hannah Davila would add to the Osprey lead belting a solo homer into left field to make the score 3-0 in the fourth. UNF would tack on three more runs in the frame with sophomore catcher Caiden Oliva driving in two of those runs off a single to right field to make the score 6-0.

A bases loaded walk in the sixth would drive in another North Florida run and increase the margin to 7-0. Tennessee Tech would tack on a run in the seventh inning to reach the eventual final.
