Portugal Notches First Career ASUN Player of the Week

JACKSONVILLE - Freshman Joao Portugal had a stellar week for North Florida men's tennis with a pair of singles wins to bring in his first career ASUN Player of the Week honor, as announced by the league office on Wednesday afternoon.
Portugal follows senior Andreas Scott as the second Osprey to bring home the honors this season. He is also the first Osprey freshman to reel in ASUN weekly honors since Jorge Nunez in the spring of 2019.
The Coimbra, Portugal native took over court six with his singles victories against Kennesaw State and Florida. He helped UNF to its second win of the year against the Owls, while being the lone team point for the Ospreys against the Gators.
"Joao [Portugal] is one of the hardest workers I know and he is embracing what it means to be coachable," said head coach John Collins. "His energy is contagious and I'm excited to see him compete again this weekend."
Portugal will get back on the court this weekend with a match against Mercer on Sunday, Feb. 23, set for 11 a.m., in Macon, Ga.
