COLUMBIA, S.C. - North Florida swimming earned a top-five team finish closing out the fourth and final day of the Gamecock Invite hosted by South Carolina on Friday evening.
The highlight of the final day for the Ospreys came from senior Victoria Torres, who put up two times in the top 10 of the 100 freestyle event. She clocked the fifth-fastest 100 free time in program history in the finals at 51.39, followed with an opening split time of 51.20 in the 400 free relay to put up the fourth-fastest time.
Torres gave UNF its highest individual placement of the day in 17th overall for the 100 free. Amelia Hildebrand and Riley McCormick were also a part of the race with times in 23rd and 26th respectively.
The other top time for Torres came alongside Hildebrand, McCormick and Brooke Bourn from the 400 free relay. The team combined for a stellar mark of 3:26.29 to leave South Carolina with a 10th-overall placement.
Kayla Daley and Cameron Kellogg were the top key finishers in the remaining events during the 200 butterfly and 200 individual medley. Daley placed 19th overall with a time of 2:09.38 in the fly just after Kellogg placed 22nd earning 2:08.19 in the IM.
After four days of competition, the Ospreys finished the meet in fifth overall in the standings at the Gamecock Invite. They scored 290.5 total points and placed above Georgia Southern, Savannah College of Art & Design, Florida Southern and Carson-Newman.
"Just an outstanding way to finish the week. The last day of an invite is always the toughest day. You're tired; mentally and physically. Our swimmers took on the challenge today. Many personal-best marks and two times in the top 10 in the 100 freestyle by Victoria [Torres]. Our 200 IM group stepped up in the finals with dropped times. The 100 freestyle group really shined today as well. Victoria [Torres], Amelia [Hildebrand], Riley [McCormick], and Brooke [Bourn] all had outstanding swims in trials and finals, especially in the 400 freestyle relay to close out the meet. Our 200 butterfly group had a good day. Our 200 backstrokers, Reeves [Showfety], Katie [Carlos], Amanda [Loomis], and Aydan [Horrigan], really went after it today. It was a great week for us. We swam through the meet and it really shows that we're really going to swim fast at the end of the season."
