COLUMBIA, S.C. - North Florida swimming had quality races from a pair of 1650-yard swimmers and the 800-yard freestyle relay teams to open up the Gamecock Invite hosted by South Carolina at the Carolina Natatorium on Tuesday evening.
Grace Burton and Skyler Jansen took their lanes in the 1650 freestyle in the lone individual event of the day for the Ospreys. Burton placed 20th overall with a stellar mark of 17:40.58, while Skyler Jansen took 24th-place clocking in at 18:00.62.
Following the 1650 swimmers, Paige Munna, Kayla Daley, Annalia Jansons and Amelia Hildebrand turned in a time of 7:35.24 to place just outside the top 10 relay teams. Riley McCormick, Sadie Jahn, Amanda Loomis and Katie Carlos were right behind in 15th at 7:47.33.
Several teams are represented at the South Carolina meet, including the Gamecocks, North Carolina, East Carolina, Georgia Southern, Tampa, Florida Southern, Carson-Newman and Savannah College of Art & Design.
This was the first of four days of events occurring at Gamecock Invite with at least 5-6 races going on the women's side for the Ospreys across the remaining three days. Wednesday's slate will include the 200 medley relay, 100 butterfly, 400 individual medley, 200 freestyle and 100 breaststroke.
"We started the 1650-yard freestyle with some solid swims. Our 800-yard freestyle relays did a good job as well. We are looking forward to tomorrow. There's going to be a lot of exciting racing."
