JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Senior Jonas Hartenstein will represent the North Florida men's tennis team in the NCAA D-I Men's Tennis Singles Championship from May 20-25 in Stillwater, Okla.
Hartenstein goes into the tournament as the reigning ASUN Player of the Week and the No. 118-ranked overall player in the ITA singles rankings. He drew No. 29 Filip Planinsek from Alabama in the first round of the championship bracket.
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - North Florida men's tennis (14-9) falter in their first round matchup against No. 10 Florida State (22-7) in the NCAA Championship on Friday evening. After going undefeated in ASUN play and winning their third ASUN Championship tournament title in program history, UNF struggled against the reigning ACC Champion leading to their defeat, 4-1.
The Ospreys came out strong in doubles play taking a lead on every court early on. With their eyes set on claiming the doubles point, Chase Healeyand Andreas Scott took court three to give them a 1-0 lead in doubles play. That was all UNF could get, as Florida State slowly fought back and took the remaining two courts to claim the doubles point.
UNF needed to win four courts to move on to the second round of the NCAA Championship. Much like in doubles play, the Ospreys started strong leading on all courts at one point. FSU came back to win two courts in a row to give them a 3-0 lead. Scott managed to get UNF one point back on court five, but the Seminoles soon after took the last court needed to defeat the Ospreys.
