JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - North Florida men's tennis (2-8) falls for the second time in as many days to South Alabama (5-6) on Thursday afternoon at UNF Tennis Complex.
The Ospreys started off per usual, as they picked up the doubles point, while only needing two courts to do so. Their dominance in doubles continues, as they have now won the doubles point in eight of their ten matches this year and have won it in all four home matches on the season.
The doubles matches this afternoon were tight, but the Ospreys where able to prevail. They grabbed our first of the two courts from Jonas Hartenstein and Rodrigo Crespo. The senior duo were able to snag three straight points, as they overcame an initial 4-3 deficit to win the match, 6-4.
Shortly after, the Ospreys grabbed the doubles point from Breno Marques and Andreas Scott on court two. The pairing had also mounted a comeback just like their fellow teammates on court one with Marques and Scott coming back from a 4-3 deficit as well to win their court, 6-4, and the doubles point for UNF.
With the absence of PJ Kotan, UNF saw the re-introduction of freshman Chase Healey into the lineup. The freshman partnered up with Juan Pablo Cenoz for doubles play and then took on court six in singles play for the Ospreys.
UNF's sole singles point came way of Marques in three sets on court five for the Ospreys. Marques had initially dropped his first set, 6-1, but was able to claw back into the match by winning the second set, 7-6, after a tiebreak of 7-5. The third set remained close throughout, but Marques was able to pull through with a 6-4 win to secure the victory.Â
After the Marques win, the Ospreys moved the match to a score of 3-2 overall in favor of South Alabama. With play still ongoing from courts three and four at that moment, this left the door open for the Ospreys to still win the match, as both remaining courts were still in their third sets. Unfortunately, the results did not go their way in those sets, and both courts dropped their respective matches at the hands of the Jaguars.
The Ospreys get to play one last non-conference opponent welcoming in Chattanooga on Wednesday, Mar. 13, at 5 p.m., at the UNF Tennis Complex.
