Ospreys Search For First Victory Against Queens In Program History
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - North Florida baseball continues its five-game road trip opening ASUN play with a weekend series at Queens (N.C.) from Mar. 15-17 in Charlotte, N.C.
UNF is coming off a midweek victory against FAMU, a game that saw the Ospreys score all 11 runs from the seventh inning on. UNF has now reached double digits in the win column and are searching for their first victory in program history against the Royals.
Last Time Out
UNF defeated FAMU, 11-8. Improving to 10-6 on the season. The Ospreys fell behind early and their offense was stifled through six innings. UNF’s offense awoke in the seventh, as they plated four runs to take the lead. The big blow of the inning was a two-run triple from Cherokee Nichols. The Ospreys plated seven more in the eighth, thanks to multi-RBI hits from Tyler Gerteisen and Matthew Clements. A rough eighth made the game close, but a solid ninth from Lance Bolton secured the midweek victory.
Scouting Queens
Queens is 4-13 on the season and they are on a four game losing streak. They most recently lost a midweek game at home against Appalachian State. The Royals are a dismal 1-8 away from North Carolina, and have been a one-side team. They currently have hit 30 home runs this season but enter this weekend with an ERA at 8.88.
All-Time Series
Queens swept UNF last season at Harmon Stadium. Games one and two were a doubleheader, and Queens took both. Game one was a great comeback for the Royals while game two was an easier win. Queens completed the sweep by winning a close game three, 7-6 against the ‘Spreys. UNF is looking for not only its first victory in North Carolina, but their first victory against Queens in program history.
Reliable Roca
Tony Roca continues to be UNF’s most consistent starter this season, as he has now lowered his season ERA to 0.59. The lefty has not allowed a run since his first start against Florida back on February 20th. Over his last three starts, he has tossed 14.2 innings allowing zero runs while striking out 11. The Graduate Student has more wins this season than his previous two combined.
Multi McKinlay
Tripp McKinlay has been North Florida’s most impactful transfer this season. The infielder has been heating up at the plate and has four multi-hit games over his last seven starts. McKinlay is on a seven-game hit streak, and has driven in 12 over that stretch. He has raised his average to .329, which is tied for first on the team.
All three matchups this weekend will be broadcasted on ESPN+. Updates for each game will be made through live stats, as well as on X/Twitter at @OspreyBSB and Instagram at @OspreysBSB.
