
Top-Seeded Baseball Falls In First Game At ASUN Championship To No. 4-Seeded North Alabama

DELAND, Fla. - Top-seeded North Florida Baseball fell in its first game at the ASUN Championship to No. 4-seeded North Alabama, 11-4, at Melching Field on Thursday.
Redshirt sophomore Carter White led the way at the plate for North Florida with a 2-3 outing consisting of one home run and one triple. It marked White's 11th home run and 13th multi-hit game this season.
Redshirt junior utility player Boone Hosey went 2-4 with one run and one walk. It marked Hosey's 13th multi-hit game this season. He has now reached base safely in 44 of his 48 games played.Â
Junior infielder Mitchell Collins rounded out North Florida's multi-hit performers. Collins went 2-4 with one run.
Redshirt junior left-handed pitcher Dakota Stone got off to a solid start on the mound. Stone posted six strikeouts through his first 3.2 innings pitched.
North Alabama opened the scoring with one run in the top of the first inning. The Lions added one more run in the top of the fourth frame and four in the fifth to take a 6-0 lead.
White belted a solo home run deep to right field in the bottom of the seventh inning to cut North Florida's deficit to 6-1.
North Alabama extended its lead in the bottom of the eighth frame, plating one run on a scoring error to command a 7-1 advantage.
North Florida showed fight in the late innings to cut its deficit to 7-4 with a three-run bottom of the eighth frame.Â
Junior infielder Mathew Farner drove in a run with a sacrifice fly to right field. Redshirt freshman outfielder Sean Benjamin notched an RBI with a bases-loaded walk. Junior outfielder Gialdri Gomez crossed home on a wild pitch to cap off North Florida's three-run eighth inning.Â
North Alabama scored four runs in the top of the ninth frame, bringing the score to its eventual final margin.
