Ospreys Take Game One Behind Five-Run Eighth Inning
CHARLOTTE, NC. - North Florida baseball (11-6) began ASUN play with an excellent pitching performance to roll past Queens (4-14) in the first game of a three-game series on Friday evening.
UNF starter Peter Holden continued his great '24 season by tossing a quality start in the victory. The Ospreys have won its ASUN opener for a seventh consecutive season.
Holden was excellent against the Royals, tossing six and two thirds scoreless to pick up his second win of the season. He was able to strand runners in scoring position consistently throughout the outing. UNF's bats were stifled until the fifth, when Drew Leinenbach plated the game's first run on a double.Â
Bryce Fisher took over for Holden in the seventh and escaped with a clutch strikeout. The eighth is when the Ospreys pulled away, scoring its first run of the inning on a walk, which led to a two-run single from Leinenbach. They then scored two more on back-to-back singles from Jakob Runnels and Cherokee Nichols. Lance Bolton secured the victory giving the Ospreys its first conference win of the season.
