Women's Soccer Dismantles North Alabama 5-0 in Road Finale

Ospreys Extend Unbeaten Streak to Seven Games

FLORENCE, Ala.  - North Florida women's soccer (6-3-7, 3-1-4 ASUN) put together an offensive onslaught on Sunday afternoon as four different Ospreys found the back of the net in a 5-0 win over North Alabama (3-11-0, 1-7-0 ASUN) in the team's final road match of the regular season. 

Bella Pontieri opened the scoring in the 16th minute, volleying home a long ball from Zara Siassi. Amanda Hartmann extended the lead in the 31st minute off of a corner kick and a last gap assist from Siassi. Just three minutes later Brooklynn Fugel slotted a shot into the top right corner after being played through from Ella Dudley. Pontieri got her brace in the 58th minute on a long distance strike following a throw-in from Brialyn Anderson. Allie Fekany capped off the scoring seconds later after a give-and-go from Pontieri and Chloe Lynch

It was the first time the Ospreys have scored five goals on an opponent since Sept. 4, 2016 against Alabama State. Pontieri's brace takes her to five goals on the season with 12 points. Siassi made her 78th consecutive career start, she is two matches away from breaking the all-time appearance record. 

The Ospreys are unbeaten in the last seven league games, with a record of 3-0-4 since Sept. 19. and improve to 3-1 all-time against North Alabama.

  • First Half: It was an even opening 15 minutes to the match with neither side having any real opportunities … The Ospreys broke the deadlock in the 16th minute after a long ball from Zara Siassi fell into the path of Bella Pontieri, who volleyed it home to make it 1-0 … Around 15 minutes later, in the 31st minute a corner from Chloe Lynch would find the head of Amanda Hartmann whose header hit the post, falling to the feet of Siassi who touched it back to Hartmann to extend the Ospreys lead … just three minutes later, Ella Dudley played a ball into Brooklynn Fugel who made a run into the box, having her first shot blocked, she struck the rebound into the bottom corner to add another goal for the Ospreys … UNF entered the break with a three-goal advantage, while outshooting UNA 16-3.
  • Second Half: The Ospreys kept up the pressure in the second half, pushing for another goal  … in the 58th minute a throw-in from Brialyn Anderson found the feet of Pontieri, who struck a shot from distance for her second goal of the afternoon … just seconds after the UNA kickoff, Lynch stripped the ball from the defender, playing a give-and-go with Pontieri before slipping in Fekany who slotted home the shot to give the Ospreys a 5-0 lead … UNF kept pushing for more, taking six more shots following the fifth goal, taking the total up to 25 … the Ospreys managed to keep their first clean sheet since Aug. 29, picking up the 5-0 victory in their final road match of the regular season.
