Men's Golf Struggles in Opening Round at NCAA Championship

Cody Carroll Gives Best Score at 5-Over
SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. - A rough start turned into a round that never found its footing for No. 33 North Florida men's golf on the opening day of play at the NCAA Championships at Grayhawk Golf Club.
The Ospreys scored 26-over as a team with only seven birdies to show for in the first round. They were one of seven teams in the tournament to score 20 shots or more over par on Thursday afternoon.
Cody Carroll holds the best score on the day for the Ospreys with his round of 5-over 75. The four-year UNF veteran had one of the strongest finishes of his senior season with eight straight holes of par or better to end his day in the desert.

- Carroll had a rocky start, but put together a strong back nine score of 1-over to card 5-over 75 during the first round.
- He recorded two birdies on the round and scored at par or better from the 11th hole on during his back nine.
- Nick Gabrelcik joined Carroll with two birdies in the first round to notch 6-over 76 where he had a similar stretch of six straight holes on the front nine at par or better.
- The back-to-back ASUN Golfer of the Year also had a share of the second-best average score on par-five holes at 1-under (4.50).
- Davis Lee went birdie and par on his last two holes of the day to finish his 7-over 77 round on Thursday afternoon.
- Robbie Higgins rolled out five consecutive pars to close out his first round at 8-over 78, as he was the only Osprey to avoid recording double bogey on any hole.
- Brandon Mancheno closes out the opening round for the Ospreys at 9-over 79 with a 2-under (2.50) average score on par-three holes that was tied for second among the field.
