Righty Holds Blue Hose Scoreless for 5.2 Innings

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Just hours after nearly completing a late-game comeback win, North Florida baseball (1-1) completed the feat this go around as the Ospreys erased a 5-0 deficit thanks to magical work by Dominick Madonna in long relief and 11 hits from the Osprey bats in an 8-5 victory against Presbyterian Saturday, Feb. 19.

Madonna went a career-long 5.2 innings, fanning three while inducing seven groundouts and seven fly outs. He spun 85 pitches, walked just two and didn't allow an earned run. 2022 Preseason Stopper of the Year Watch List nominee, Stephen Halstead, nailed the door shut with two strikeouts and 1.2 scoreless innings to seal the save.

At the dish, UNF pounded out 11 hits and scored eight unanswered runs with runs in the third, fifth, seventh and eighth inning. Abraham Sequera led the way with a three-hit day, scoring twice while driving in another and walking. Brock Edge, Isaiah Byars and Cade Westbrook all came through with multi-hit days as well.

Behind the Line Score

Presbyterian did all of its scoring in the second inning, using five hits and two walks to put up a five spot.
Madonna came in for Ryan Jean with one out in the second. From there he held the Blue Hose to only two walks while not permitting a hit in 5.2 innings of dominance.
The UNF offense began to heat up just an inning later, pushing two across in the third. Aidan Sweatt reached on a dropped fly ball and Brock Edge plated him by splitting the gap in right. He later came around on a Sequera single.
Edge was involved in the UNF scoring again in the fifth. He singled, stole second and came around on a Westbrook base knock to right.
The seventh proved pivotal, with UNF jumping in front with four runs on four hits. Sweatt walked, Sequera doubled and Byars brought Sweatt across home with an infield single.
Westbrook evened the game on a double to right center and a wild pitch scored Byars.
With UNF up 6-5, Grodi completed the inning's scoring with an RBI single through the right side.
Byars provided an insurance run, scoring Sequera with an RBI single to left center in the eighth.
