Bedford Cup Stretches from Oct. 8-10
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - UNF men's tennis begins the fall 2021 season at the Bedford Cup October 8-10, hosted by Florida State in Tallahassee. This is the first of two fall tournaments UNF plays.
The Ospreys are no strangers to the Bedford Cup, a tournament featuring Florida-based schools.
1) Get to Know Us
The Ospreys are nine strong, with a slew of upperclassmen to lead the way. Dominik Barton, Matt Carroll, Rodrigo Crespo, Nilo Duarte, Joe Ellis, Jonas Hartenstein, PJ Kotan and Jorge Nunez have all seen at least parts of two seasons of collegiate tennis.
Kotan and Barton were both ASUN All-Conference honorees a year ago. Kotan turned in ASUN All-Freshman honors, while Barton was tabbed to the first team.
2) We've Been Here Before
The last time UNF has been at the Bedford Cup was in 2019. The Ospreys also went to Tallahassee during the last fall season seen by collegiate tennis.
Duarte, Barton and Kotan all made it to the final day of competition at the 2019 Bedford Cup.
3) What's New?
Breno Marques is the only newcomer for the Ospreys who return eight from last year's squad. Marques comes in as a sophomore academically after having to watch the season's results from afar last year. The Brazilian native could not make the season due to COVID-19 travel restrictions.
As for the coaching staff, assistant coach Randy Phillips enters into his first year with the Ospreys after being hired in the summer. Phillips was one of the winningest players in UNC Greensboro history.
