JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - In fall collegiate tennis fashion, the North Florida men's tennis team will take part in two different events beginning on Friday with four players heading to the FGCU Invite, while the ranked pair of Jefta Kecic and Lasse Muscheites heads to the Gator Ranked +1 Tournament.
"Overall we will use these tournaments as a learning experience. This is what fall is all about - exposing weaknesses, getting match tough, and understanding what it means to compete," said head coach Matt Lucas. "I thought we had some guys that competed well and just aren't sharp yet, which is to be expected this early in the year. I am really happy for Albi to get back out there after a long lay off from back surgery so that is a win in itself. Nilo was able to see the collegiate level and know where he needs to improve. Till and Sahil picked up some solid wins and with a bit more match play under their belts, I am confident they will have even better results. Hopefully they can learn from the Duke Invite and implement things they are trying to do as players."
Nilo Duarte, Till Von Winning, Alberto De Meo and Sahil Deshmukh will all play in the FGCU Invite against the hosts, FAU and Barry. The FGCU invite is set up for a four-match singles play and a two-match doubles play against each team. Competition starts at 11 a.m.
Kecic and Muscheites, ranked No. 23 in the first ITA poll, get their first shot at taking the court at the University of Florida at the Alfred Ring Tennis Complex. The pair takes part in the Gator Ranked +1 Tournament and opens with double play against McClain Kessler and Chase Perez-Blanco from Florida at 9 a.m. Following doubles, No. 71 Kecic plays Niclas Braun from Mississippi State, while Muscheites faces off with No. 17 Timo Stodder from Tennessee.
In addition to the teams listed above, Louisville, Wake Forest, South Carolina, Illinois and Tulane are sending players.Â
